It is my very strong opinion now, 16 months after the birth of my daughter, that you cannot be in integrity in midwifery and be licensed and registered. If you’re licensed, you have to betray somebody. You’re either betraying your licensing body or you’re betraying the family. Being licensed means that you are in the system. Barbie is a medical midwife, even though she may advertise herself as “home birth-based” or “independent.” Some births, like my daughter’s, will present a fork in the road where a licensed midwife will have to choose which way to go; the family or the license. And most will choose their license over you so that they can continue their “good girl” reputation with the hospitals and licensing agency. It runs so deep and it is disgusting that women, like myself, think that we have made a safe choice when searching for midwives who we think are out of the system. Unfortunately, I learned that the hard way. AND I’m happy that it woke me up to the extreme corruption, even though I thought I was already aware. It is a constant, educational journey. I will never choose a licensed provider again for my future births. I hate that it took my first baby’s birth to learn that really challenging lesson. I gave my power away and in turn, I was gaslit during my labor. Barbie never showed up in my home when we called her when I had started active labor. She told us to stop timing contractions and that I had much more time to go. There was no way a first time mother could be progressing that fast. Shortly after, my daughter’s foot came out and surprise, she was breech. Looking back, I do believe that she was breech for quite some time in the later part of the pregnancy but that was never caught by anyone. Her positioning wasn’t the issue, though. Barbie was called again and she told us to call 911. And so we began the hospital transfer and with it, the horrifying and traumatic birth of my daughter and the mistreatment and abuse of us both. I have learned many lessons throughout all of this and it has taken me a very long time to realize many things and I will continue to learn more as I unpack it all. My plan forward is to do the work and learn how to own my self so that I am no longer available for abuse, which we all know happens in hospitals and birthing centers, and I would also argue, sadly, happens with a trusted midwife in our own homes. Let’s stop betraying ourselves ladies and have TRUE sovereign births. We deserve so much better and so do our beautiful babies.

Barbie was my midwife for the last 7 of my 10 children, including footling breech identical twins born on the 4th of July! She is caring, professional, knowledgeable and really we love her like a member of our family. She is cool, calm and prepared in every situation. She is a highly recommended midwife who we are blessed to have in our lives. Thanks for everything, Barbie! (She delivered one of my grandchildren, too!)

I have received the most exceptional care from Barbie. She was willing to accept me as a first time patient even though I came to her in my second trimester. Furthermore, she came all the way to Wyoming from Fort Collins to deliver my baby. Barbie comes highly recommended by many individuals in the area and since my experience with her caring for me and my child I personally can understand why. She is an expert in her field, listens to patients needs, and eases their concerns. She was respectful of the decisions we made, was informative as to common practices but was not "pushy" in any sense. I cannot recommend her enough if you are looking for a highly qualified midwife. Barbie is an amazing midwife. My husband and I have four children, all of whom were assisted into this world by Barbie. I was a very young mom and was nervous to have a homebirth (but wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with the hospital). Barbie's hospital experience and direct communication put me at ease. I knew that Barbie wasn't afraid to call it and send me to the hospital if necessary. I felt safe while also having the benefit of being in the comfort of my own home. She really does know what she's talking about and thinks clearly and logically under pressure. I would absolutely recommend her to any family considering home birth. Because of Barbie's loving care, I was able to have the births that I've always wanted.
